I failed to do this...I guess its because I failed to read the
instructions... But here goes.
My name is Mike Walton. Depending on which hat I wear at which time,
I am either a Reserve Major (having spent 6 years total on active duty); a
Associate Resident Hall Director of the largest men's hall at Eastern Kentucky
University (which is a regional university in Richmond, Kentucky...south of
Lexington and west of Huntington, West Virginia..); or a various laundry
list of positions at the unit, district, local Council, Area/regional, and
yes national levels....take your pick (one of my students is goading me to
list them all, but for the sake of brevity (and as he reminded me, I have but
one page to do this in...) I won't. If you write to me, I'll be glad to send
you my Scouting resume.
I am called the "blackeagle" not as a racial item but because of the
fact that everything I've done (so far) in my life can be traced back to the
small red circular cloth with the black eagle on it with the black border and
lettering "BSA" at the bottom. (for those not familiar with the patch, ALL
Scouting emblems were done in red and black, red and white or red and blue.
The emblem I speak of is the patrol "medallion" or emblem for the first
patrol I belonged to..the eagles). Again, Mail or Snailmail me and I'll be
glad to send you my "blackeagle...why" file.
Currently, I serve Scouting as (volunteer) Advisor for the nation's
first Collegiate Scouting Service Explorer Post (called the Bluegrass Scouting
Alliance Club); as District Exploring and Activities Chair; as the Bluegras
Council's Exploring Commissioner and Assistant Council Commissioner (among
other jobs); as a member of the Southeast Region's Exploring Committee; and
as a National Exploring Instructor.
If I may do a little commercialization, I also do Eagle Scout
presentations, speeches to anyone who will listen, presentations and SME
work...and anything else associated with this great program called Scouting.
I ask only for gasoline money and a place to lay my head and shoulders in
return (unless your council is one of the few I have not visited, in which
case I ask for a Council strip in addition to the gas). Yes, I am cheap but
those who have heard me tell me (and others) that I'm worth a lot more! I
just love to travel, talk about Scouting (ask my students, or the administration
here about that!), promote Scouting and work with Scouters!
So there you go...so if you hear from the ol' Blackeagle (or the
Indian/OA name "settummanque!") then you know its from......
