Re: Troop Size

I spent time in a troop of 40+ scouts, and I spent time in a troop with 10-
scouts, so I've seen both sides of the troop size story. I personally much
preferred the larger troop, because I am a strong beleiver in the patrol
method. I also liked the diversity that a large troop provided.
However, I also see the advantages of a small troop. I can understand the
benifits of not having to plan too far ahead, and the troop can be more
spontaneous. Unfortunately, the small troop I was in was much too
disorganized, and I couldn't stand the looseness.
I have heard some talk about a larger troop being better for the New Patrol
Method. I, personally, am vehemently against the new method for a number
of reasons which I don't need to get into (unless, of course, someone wants
The larger troop provided me a much more challenging time as SPL, I think.
The individual patrols in the troop worked very well together, also.
Well, as you can see, I am very much for a larger troop (around 40), but I
think that a huge troop (70+, which there aren't too many of) would be
almost too much to handle. If anyone wants to talk further about this
subject, please write back.
