Subject: Cub Camping
I've read with interest the recent notes about Cub Camping. Speaking
as a Scout Leader I beleive that cubs should be encouraged to go camping
in fact if I had my way all cubs should have been camping before they
join Scouts. Lucky my two Cub Scout Leaders agree. Camping isn't just for
Scouts but the whole Scouting family. I would much prefere that each new
Scout to my Troop was fully training in camping skills so that when we
do go camping we don't have to waste time teaching basics but get down
to the more challanging activities.
Even before I joined Cubs I had several weeks worth of camping
experance, combined that with the Cub camps ment that when I joined Scouts
I was able to progress quickly and have the confidence when made PL to
take my Patrol camping, thus benifiting everybody.
So if Kids can only start camping when they join Scouts they have to
learn a vast amount in a short space of time to make any use of it.
So I say to all you Cub leaders out there ... Go for it
And put the OUT back into ScOUTing.
