Alright....who on this list works for _Scouting_ magazine???? Just
today I opened my mailbox to find Arnold Schwarzenegger on the front
cover of the October issue of _Scouting_ with a quote of "Shape Up and
Live a Better Life". Looks like our worries are the same as those of
national. :) Also on page 14 there is a cute cartoon with a Scout leader
about to blow a bugle behind a father sitting in front of the TV with a
box of pretzels and a can of pop. Kinda appropriate, huh?
Also on page 14 is "Front Line Stuff" with the question of "'X' is
an enthusiastic Cub Scout, but he has attended only one-third of den and
pack activities in six months, L.R. reported in our May-June issue. The
problem is that X's father 'forgets' or is 'too busy' to take his son to
meetings and outings. Also, he never helps with his son's advancement.
'What's a leader to do?' L.R. asked." Well, I think we've heard that
here before, too. The question for this month is:
HOW DO YOU SPREAD THE WORKLOAD?
In our troop the same parents drive for trips, are merit badge
counselors, camp with the Scouts, attend planning meetings, and take on
fund-raising jobs. I need ideas as to how to get more parents involved
and spread this work around more equally. --Troop Committee Member
