RE: the boy denied membership because his father would not profess a faith
in God. Sounds like someone at the local level (troop) goofed. It is the BOYS
belief which is important, not the fathers. The fathers belief would only
be important if he was trying to register as well.
I have never known of a troop that asks people's religion before allowing
someone to join. In fact, I am willing to bet that even most troops
affiliated with the Church of the Latter Day Saints would allow youths who
were not part of the church join and the church uses BSA a their Church
For your reference I have lived and participated in the councils in
Detroit, Ann Arbor, San Francico, Los Angeles, Western L.A. and Tucson.
I have never heard of a council taking such an action.
