As both a coach of youth teams (soccer, baseball and hockey) and a
scouter, I see a lot of overweight youth. More of the kids (both
boys and girls) on the sports teams are in better shape, but not
100 per cent. There are a lot of overweight coaches and scouters
TOO! The US is just getting FAT! It is partly a culture problem.
But leaders of all youth organizations can help get the kids into
fitness programs, health awareness etc. Even the scouts that are
not into sports can benefit from some warm up exercise and a game
at a meeting. Our troop has a GYM night once a month and a swim
night 3 times in the winter. Our sports teams are given handouts
of off season training programs. TRY to lead by example also!
