Don Izard brings up some of the changes happening in the New York Councils.
I have some information about a change that became effective last saturday.
The Northern Indiana Council is now called the LaSalle council. I do
not know if the OA lodge is planning a change soon as well. The reason for
this change is the acquisition of a new district, Sawasabee, from the
Southwest Michigan Council, which took effect in February. A new council
strip is coming, but I do not know when.
The reason for this change is money. The Southwest Michigan Council was
going to split up the district because SME was consistantly below goal, which
was always lower than the other districts in the council. Instead of
redistricting the council, they gave our district to Northern Indiana, which
I am told is also financilly strapped.
As a member of the district, I feel as though we may have gone from the
frying pan and into the fire. The grass wasn't really all that green on this
Although I still know several people involved with the Southwest Michigan
Council, I have not heard if any name changes are forthcomming since the
most southwestern part of Michigan is no longer in the council.
It is nice to see we are not the only ones with problems.
