That is absolutely correct. Explorers will not have the same
advancement opportunities under Learning for Life that they enjoy now.
GOLD, Quartermaster, and the new Ranger and Silver awards will only be
available to Venturers.
LFL may come up with their own awards--I have no indication of that.
The main difference between Venturing and Exploring is that Venturing
will be a part of the Boy Scouts of America, Inc.--an organization
that everyone knows about. Venturers will follow the same high
standards that Scouts have for 88 years. Venture Crews will have
Exploring will be with a less known partner of the BSA--Learning for
Life, Inc. Explorer Posts will not have members--just participants.
As a youth, I was a High Adventure Explorer, EMS Explorer, and an FBI
Explorer, so I have respect for both types of posts. But I cannot see
why a High Adventure Post would want to go over to Learning for Life.
No one is going to make Venture Crews throw away their jackets and
other items that say Exploring.
The Outdoor Venturing Committee is working hard to implement training
for youth and adults, comprehensive recognition programs, and a
marketing emphasis to increase public awareness about Venturing. We
are working hard for all Venturers--especially high adventure crews.
I do not know this for a fact, but I would be suprised if LFL launched
a high adventure emphasis--just my personal opinion.
