Yes, it is true. In our PC world many things we once enjoyed are now Taboo.
In scouting, one of the things that is now taboo is hazing. I know when my
son began scouting public humiliation was a way of controlling the group.
If you do X you will stand in the middle of the group and sing "I'm a
little tea pot." That was fun for most everyone. However, I have
witnessed kids in extreme upset because they were pushed into this
behavior. For the good of a few, a tradition expired. Many people wax
with affection remembering the pranks and jokes played on the "new kid."
That is no more.
I would have to classify the terms once used for scout programs via
changing times have gone out of style with above. Since history seems to
be circular, I am certain we will "loosen up" and return some day to a day
when such jokes are the style. For now, I think the past needs to stay there.
