I've been sitting here in the back seat watching and reading how this
issue has progressed over the last couple of days. As an Explorer
Advisor, EOA Advisor, and a District Executive I have many strong
feelings regarding "the change".
Career Exploring (LFL) vs. Venturing:
After thinking long and hard to myself I have realized one thing - The
program will not change. Those of us offering Police posts will
continue with the same program. Those of us offering Boy Scout oriented
High adventure will continue with the same program. It is our jobs as
professionals to serve best our units, to help them along. We will do
that. It is our jobs as Advisors and Members of Committee to implement
the program for the youth. And we will do that. Regardless of unit
title. I told my Post of 40 youth yesterday that besides the advancement
opportunities (that we were looking forward to), and a name change,
everything is the same. And it sounds like Sea Explorers will get thier
name back :)
Venturing is not most want, however it does bring us in line with
international programs and sometimes we must bite the bullet. And I
hope that a national division will be created to support such a name.
My post WILL keep the kelly green. And I hope that the national service
center continues to offer it.
Finally, an advancement program after eagle and 18 other thatn QM.
Better than GOLD and compliments the outdoor program
No matter what happens, let us keep the discussion going to better
inform our fellow Volunteers and Professionals. Knowledge is power.
Let's support to the best of our abilities the national programs and
continue to provide an awsome program to our youth!
