My problem with this change is everything was going great. In my council exploring
had its problems. But finally we were working all together to address them. Our
council Exploring Committee is up and running great. Our EOA is doing great. We are
helping our local posts into understanding more of the national recognition's and
events that are available to them. Lots of them had no idea what the GOLD award was
or the Explorer Leadership Award. We were informing them of these things and getting
the word out about NELC and NLEEC. We have a Exploring confrance coming up in
October, which will happen even with these changes, what happens after the conference
is anyone's guess.
So in my thinking it wasn't broken so why fix it? Maybe this will be a good thing, or
maybe it will be a bad thing. The program was working great for me as a youth, i was
growing and learning and building character.
Now my council EOA might go away. That's a shame because i meet so many other
Explorers there who have become good friends. Many from both Career and High
Adventure posts. They liked getting together, so why separate them?
According to the memo this will" lead to stronger partnerships between schools,
businesses, and the BSA." Why can't the current program do that? Infact hasn't it
already done that? Schools use the exploring program for skiing posts, boating posts,
and other things. Businesses use the program for various posts from engineering to
communications. To me if they wanted to have a stronger partnership then they should
just advertise the program. If people know about the program then they will use it
and find new things for posts to do.
another thing in the memo is this will "Increase career exposure to students" again
just advertise the program.
Well this has gone a lot longer then i would like. To me it looks like this isn't a
good move. But who knows, i know i don't like the name. I know i like the program as
it is now. I guess all i can do is see what happens.
