Permission forms here are required by every youth member under the age of 18
before leaving the scout hall/den on ANY activity. The permission forms
very state by state, and thus I have come across several different forms.
As leaders we need to lodge an activity notice form with the group leader,
who in turn approves or not the activity, the form then goes to the District
Commissioner, who passes it on to the regional HQ and then to Branch HQ.
Complicated isn't it but it all in the name of protecting number one. If
something goes wrong and you have not filled out the correct paper work the
Scout Association will not back the leader, but if everything is done
correctly and by the letter, the ass'n will back you to the hilt.
Unfortunately there are gung ho leaders and they are quite dangerous.
The activity we were doing last week was a night drop, this involves
blinding foldiing the Venturers, placing them in vehicles, and getting lost,
and see if they can find there way home. The weather at the time was
atrocious to say the least. Tonight we are doing Rock Climbing in a Rock
gym. A few choice words will be said tonight.
Paper work is a necessary bane of our existence.
