Hello Fellow Explorers!
My name is Sylvester Tan, and I've been an Explorer since I was 14. I'm
18 now, so I still have several more years as a youth member. Last year,
the Explorer Officers' Association at the Atlanta Area Council/BSA (of
which I am a member) asked the council to develop an Explorer Summer
Camp program. The council agreed, and the EOA (all youth members) set
out to create a high adventure/career development/"fun stuff teens like
to do" camp and we believe we came up with a pretty good program.
However, we need people to sign up or else the council will cancel the
program. If your Post would be interested in a program that was truly
youth designed and led, as well as alot of fun, please let us know at
Explorers will have the 1500 acre Bert Adams Scout Reservation in
Conyers, GA to themselves from July 20-24, 1997. There will be have wall
climbing and rapelling, horseback riding, a low and high ropes (COPE)
course, swimming, canoeing, nature programs, first aid and safety,
leadership and career development sessions, backpacking, hiking, trail
building, and much, much more! You choose your itenerary from what we
offer. We'll also have lots of fun with dances, cook outs, campfires,
silly games, etc. The camp is open to all registered Explorers of all
specialties (that means that it is co-ed) and costs $150 per
participant. One adult leader is free for every seven youth members.
Others are pro-rated.
Also appearing at the Explorer Summer Camp (as the high adventure
director, as a matter of fact) will be the Southern Region
Representative on the National Explorer Youth Cabinet, who loves meeting
Explorers, hearing new ideas, and trying to answer questions. Actually,
I guess that would happen to be me. Well, anyway, we would love to have
as many people as possible come-- hopefully at least sixty. Please let
me hear if you are interested and help make this dream into a reality!
Yours in Exploring,
Stembler High Adventure Program, AAC/BSA
Eagle Scout, OA, Explorer Gold Award, Natl Cabinet, etc. etc.
